Concerns over the extent to which the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has influenced the decisions of governments and international organizations have been amplified by the global outcry over China’s cover-up and propaganda surrounding the novel Wuhan coronavirus outbreak.
In his book, Stealth War: How China Took Over While America’s Elite Slept, retired Brigadier General Robert S. Spalding of the United States Air Force explains the unconventional war China has waged for the past three decades on the U.S. and other Western nations. In an interview on American Thought Leaders, General Spalding expressed concerns that the U.S., a global power accustomed to the use of military might, may not have recognized the alternative nature of this stealth war. He said China’s manipulation of economic and trade agreements has been used as a means of obtaining control over other nations, adding that the U.S. has already ceded power to China by decreasing domestic manufacturing capacity and allowing China to take control of manufacturing supply chains for many economic sectors. Additionally, China has surreptitiously obtained access to scientific and technological advancements made by U.S. companies, academic institutions, and government agencies. General Spalding expressed his opinion that the recent CCP narrative regarding the coronavirus pandemic is propaganda designed to control the world’s perception of China.
Despite the existing damage, General Spalding expressed faith that the U.S. will be able to win this war with China by exposing the truth and using its resources to restore proper economic and social balance in the world.
The United Nations and its agencies have come under greater scrutiny as a result of the current global pandemic. China currently heads four of the fifteen UN Special Agencies, including the International Civil Aviation Organization, the International Telecommunication Union, the Food and Agriculture Organization, and the UN Industrial Development Organization. Despite its long history of intellectual property theft, Beijing hopes to head the UN World Intellectual Property Organization as well.
For decades, U.S. officials hoped that bringing Beijing into United Nations organizations would change China by exposing it to more responsible governance. Unfortunately, they apparently did not anticipate that China would instead end up changing those organizations to align with the CCP’s agenda.
Analysts worry about China’s increasing involvement in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) as it was recently given a seat on the UNHRC Consultative Group. The director of the Geneva based UN Watch said, “Allowing China’s oppressive and inhumane regime to choose the world investigators on freedom of speech, arbitrary detention and enforced disappearances is like making a pyromaniac into the town fire chief. It’s absurd and immoral for the UN to allow China’s oppressive government a key role in selecting officials who shape international human rights standards and report on violations worldwide.”
Newsweek reported that China Tribunal members have written to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urging him to investigate the appointment of Chinese official Jiang Duan to the UNHRC Consultative Group, expressing grave concerns the UNHRC has not addressed China’s extreme human rights abuses, including organ harvesting. U.S. Representative Chris Smith, a senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and ranking member of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, has also condemned Jiang Duan’s appointment.
DAFOH has previously reported how China has used its influence at the UNHRC to block activists’ involvement in human rights forums, to monitor their activities, and even to persecute their family members.
The DAFOH petition with more than 3 million signatures calling for an end to China’s forced organ harvesting of Falun Gong prisoners of conscience was presented twice to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva yet no actions were taken.
The UNHRC has yet to address evidence presented to it by the China Tribunal’s chief counsel Hamid Sabi in September 2019 regarding China’s organ transplant abuses.
The UNHRC has also never addressed China’s more than 20-year-long persecution of the Falun Gong spiritual movement.
In addition, UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) and the High Commissioner for Refugees have applauded China’s Belt and Road initiative which others see as a Chinese Trojan Horse for economic control, political dominance, and military expansion.
As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, Beijing has vetoed any suggestions for discussion on the novel Wuhan coronavirus and its rapid spread throughout the world.
Experts around the world, including those in China, are questioning why the World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom waited to declare a global pandemic until two weeks after other nations had done so. Professor Bradley Thayer of the University of Texas, San Antonio and Lianchao Han, Vice President of Citizen Power Initiatives for China are confused as to why Tedros praised Beijing for its handling of the outbreak. The movement of people into and out of China was not curtailed despite the epidemic starting during the busy travel season associated with the Chinese New Year. Both Thayer and Han have accused Tedros of misreporting the number of cases in Wuhan and have asserted that the WHO is responsible for the rapid development of a global pandemic.
U.S. Senator Martha McSally has called for the resignation of the WHO Director due his reliance on inaccurate reports made by the Chinese regime about the outbreak. She notes that the parroting of deceptive information by the WHO demonstrates how much influence the CCP has over this international organization. Senator McSally blames Dr. Tedros for the deaths of those who have died from the virus worldwide.
U.S. Senator Ted Cruz believes that the WHO has lost the credibility necessary for it to be effective and that its leadership position on the international stage should be re-assessed.
The U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will be investigating the origins of the coronavirus outbreak and the WHO’s handling of the crisis, which has drawn growing criticism from U.S. lawmakers. Senator Rick Scott, the committee member who will lead the investigation, said, “We can’t trust communist China, we’ve learned we can’t trust the WHO because they lie to us.”
Japanese Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso has called for the WHO to be renamed the “China Health Organization.”
As a result of China’s growing influence over the international community, lies told by the CCP and echoed by the WHO have resulted in incalculable global suffering with dramatic loss of life and economic devastation. The world’s people must now ensure that those who have lied be held responsible.
