Dear Nursing Colleague,
Thank you for your interest in Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting, DAFOH. Nurses from all over the world are coming forward to join the efforts and raise awareness of forced organ harvesting and transplant tourism, and to see an end of the persecution of spiritual people who are the primary victims of this crime in China.
Living in detention as a non voluntary living organ bank in China, the buddhist Falun Gong remain the largest group of prisoners of conscience in the world today. It is estimated they have been killed in the hundreds of thousands for their organs. Our efforts focus on China as the country with the world’s second highest number of organ transplants and the worst record for human rights atrocities in forced organ harvesting. In contrast to regions where organ trafficking occurs, it is only in China where forceful organ seizure is state sanctioned through the military and prison system. As patients from every continent are traveling to China for fast track transplants this problem concerns nurses directly.
In 2015, DAFOH began to call upon nurses to join the group as supporting members and help with this urgent task. Wonderful opportunities for nurses include raising awareness through leading petition drives, teaching, social media platforms, research, speaking at conferences and forums, consulting as liaisons with transplant patients, doctors and other healthcare providers and institutions. The DAFOH website is a globally recognized source of information and learning materials. Commentary, articles, research papers, and simply sharing experiences with letters to the editor and photos are always welcome and appreciated.
Our nurses hold teaching as a primary role and host organ harvesting booths all over the world to raise awareness at nursing conventions, design and provide educational materials like posters and flyers, present in healthcare facilities on culture and ethics. PDF materials, power point, articles, handouts and video for presentations and teaching are also shared and available on request free of charge. This is of special interest to healthcare institutions that are required to offer annual inservice training on culture and nursing ethics. Please visit www.DAFOH.org.
